Collapsed building kills two

The collapsed buildingTwo persons met their untimely death when an uncompleted Warehouse storey building under construction at Okpoigonno taxi rank collapsed on them.

Emmanuel Avor alias Obolo, a labourer, and Albert Ackom, a mason both died instantly.

A labourer, whose name was given only as Kwabena, also known as Kobby was however rescued.

The building was said to be under construction when it came crushing down, killing the two.

Confirming the story, the Accra Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of police, (ASP) Efia Tenge said on June 5, at about 1:20pm, information received from a distressed caller indicated that an uncompleted storey building under construction had collapsed.

She said the police immediately informed the Fire Service, the National Ambulance Service and the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO).

ASP Tenge said at the scene police observed that an extension of a mixed concrete decking had collapsed on three workers namely Avor, Ackom and Kwabena aka Kobby, a labourer.

ASP Tenge said, police together with the team managed to rescue Kobby and sent him to Police Hospital for treatment.

“We were able to rescue Kwabena but Avor and Ackom were found dead when they were removed from the debris.

“Their bodies have been deposited at the Police Hospital mortuary pending autopsy,” she said.

She said on April 19, officials from the Ledzokuku-Krowo Municipal Assembly asked the owners of the structure, located in water-logged area to produce work permit but they failed to do so.
