Cocoa Purchases Hit 686,265 Tonnes

ecuador_cocoaThe Ghana Cocoa Board (Cocobod), says cocoa purchases declared as at March 27, 2014, since the start of the main crop on October 18, amounted to 686,265 tonnes.

This, according to Cocobod data, is an increment of 14 per cent from the previous year.

The purchases, which covered 23 weeks of the 33-week main crop season, were higher than the 601,662 tonnes declared in the corresponding week last year.

Ghana, the world’s second largest cocoa producer after Cote d’Ivoire, raised its October-May main crop output target by 20,000 tonnes to 850,000 tonnes last month, citing improved weather.
