Chief fisherman defrauded

A self-styled canoe carver was last Monday remanded in police custody by the Cape Coast Circuit Court for allegedly defrauding the chief fisherman of Ankaful, a fishing community near Saltpond of GH¢10, 000.00 with the pretext of selling a canoe to him.

The plea of Kweku Frimpong a.k.a. Abebe, 61, was not taken and would re-appear on February 23, for hearing to commence.

Assistant Superintendent (ASP) Okyere Andam, prosecuting, told the court, presided over by Mr. Kofi Seshie Ametewee that the complainant was Mr. Kofi Sam, the chief fisherman.

Frimpong is a farmer and self-styled canoe carver at Akokwaso in the Eastern Region.

He said nine months ago, Frimpong contacted Mr. Sam that he had carved three canoes at Ofoase and offering them for sale, and he agreed to buy one.

ASP Andam further told the court that Mr. Sam went with Frimpong to Ofoase to inspect the canoes and subsequently paid the said amount to him, but he instead, sold them to another person for GH¢23,000.00 and went into hiding.

Frimpong was arrested last February 5, by the Saltpond police at Akokwaso, following the complaint of Mr. Sam.

During interrogation, Frimpong admitted collecting the amount from Mr. Sam, but selling the canoe to another person.
