Cashier arrested for absconding with employer’s cash

Mustafa Harruna MensahA 32-year-old Dispatch Clerk, has been arrested for allegedly stealing GH¢125,000 belonging to his employer at Ridge in Accra.

Mustafa Harruna Mensah was apprehended in Nigeria, through the International Police Organisation (Interpol) where he had invested part of the money in ‘Okada’ business.

Briefing the media on Monday, the Cantonments District Police Commander, Chief Superintendent, Iddi Seidu, said Mensah who was working with a mining and gold firm based in Accra, was given the amount on November 20, last year, at about 2 p.m., to deposit into the company’s account, but failed to do so.

“According to the company, Mensah was given the money and driven to the bank by the company’s driver. He entered the banking hall and asked the driver to leave,” Supt. Seidu said, adding that as soon as the driver left, Mensah came out of the bank and bolted with the money.

According to him, all attempts to reach Mensah proved futile, and the matter was reported to the police.

Chief Supt. Seidu said INTERPOL Ghana, with Nigerian INTERPOL, arrested Mensah on January 9, at Kalaba in Nigeria, where he had bought four motorbikes for Okada business.

Chief Supt. Seidu, disclosed that Mensah converted the money into dollars and that 8,000 dollars was retrieved from him.
