Carpenter remanded for possessing firearm

The Accra Circuit Court ‘One’ yesterday remanded a carpenter in police custody for unlawful possession of firearm and ammunition.
The accused pleaded not guilty and was remanded until November 23, 2017.
Frank Azamati was nabbed by personnel of Combat 24 of the National Police Patrol Unit headquarters at the Accra Mall roundabout on November 2, 2017, at about 11:30pm.
Superintendent Kwaku Bempah, prosecutor, told the court presided by Mr Aboagye Tandoh that the locally manufactured pistol with six cartridges was found when police searched the accused (Azamati) who was on his way home.
He said that the police also found 11 cartridges and 13 9mm ammunition when a search was conducted in the accused room at Spintex.
The prosecutor indicated that the accused said he bought the gun from a certain man from Alavanyo in the Volta Region at  GH¢1,000.00.
