Red lions Win kingdom Capital Cards Contest




cardsRed Lions playing cards club from La were at the weekend crowned champions of the second edition of the annual Kingdom Capital Ghana Limited Greater Accra Regional playing cards competition organized by Media 2 Concepts in conjunction with the National Sports Authority (NSA) and Obonu FM at the forecourt La Trade Fair Centre.

The two-day event co-sponsored by Promasidor Ghana Limited – producers of Miksi, brought together 20 cracked playing cards teams dotted around the region to vie for the title as kings of playing cards in the region for the next one year.

After the defending champions Wantu Wazuri took an early shower from the competition at the expense of Obonu in the opening game, the stage was set for a thrilling competition that would produce a new champion.

The competition entered into the semi finals stage on day-two which was played under the best of 600 points rule.

Red Lions defeated Krowor from Nungua 600 points to 530 points to book a place in the finals against Young Stars from La who beat Flying Eagles also from La Agyemang area 600 points to 570 points.

Red Lions rounded up a fine afternoon of scintillating performance when they defeated Young Stars by 400 points to 330 points, and for the reward they took home a trophy, a cash amount of GHC700, a Sunny LCD flat screen TV, playing card accessories and products from the various sponsors, while Young Stars made away with GHC500, playing card accessories and products from the various sponsors.

Flying Eagles who took third position after beating Krowor by 200 points to 190 points, after both sides had tied up at 190 points apiece, went home with GHC300 together with playing card accessories and products from the various sponsors with Krowor picking home various products from the sponsors.

Chief Executive Officer of Media 2 Concepts, Mr. Steve Bortier, expressed his appreciation to the sponsors Kingdom Capital Ghana Limited and Promasidor Ghana Limited producers of Miksi for helping put out one of the best organized competition in the two year history of the championships.

According to him, the competition has the potential to bring people together in driving towards a common course of promoting unity in diversity, enhance tolerance as well as breed good communal development and this was the main force behind his outfit desire to organize the event.

He hinted of a much more improved competition next year where mini inter-community championships would be held to select two clubs for the final showdown. - Raymond Ackumey
