A suspected armed robber on the Spintex Road in Accra, has been shot dead by the police for allegedly snatching a taxi cab from its owner.
The deceased, yet to be identified, together with his accomplices (at large) were said to have attacked and snatched a Toyota Yaris taxi cab with registration number GW 9533-13 from its owner on the Spintex Road last Friday.
Speaking to the press, the Greater Accra Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno, said on April 24, at about 1:00 am the police had a hint of a group of robbers operating in and around Spintex, Adenta, Nungua and East Legon.
He said the Command immediately dispatched a team of police personnel to the areas to ensure security, adding that the robbers, on seeing the police opened fire and the police responded killing one of the them.
“However the other accomplices managed to escape with gunshot wounds but the police managed to impound the taxi,” he said.
DCOP Yohuno said during investigations, it was discovered that the genuine registration number of the taxi had been replaced with fake one GN 9533-13.
He said the deceased had also been identified by the complainant as one of those who attacked him.
He appealed to the public, hospitals and other health facilities to report persons who would report at their outfits with gunshot wounds for treatment.
