CAF Announces 2014 Awards Nominees

Asamoah gyan The Confederation Africaine de Football (CAF) has announced its lists of nominees for the 2014 African Player of the Year and the 2014 African Player of the Year (Based in Africa) Awards.

Twenty-five players have been nominated for the topmost Player of the Year, and 20 for the Player of the Year (Based in Africa) categories.

The nominees are (in alphabetical order);

African Player of the Year

Ahmed Musa (Nigeria, CSKA Moscow); Asamoah Gyan (Ghana, Al Ain); Dame N’doye       (Senegal, Lokomo-tiv Moscow); Emmanuel Adebayor (Togo, Tottenham); Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting (Cameroon, Schalke 04); Fakhreddine Ben Youssef (Tunisia, CS Sfaxien); Ferdjani Sassi (Tunisia, CS Sfaxien) and Yao Kouassi Gervais ‘Gervinho’ (Cote d’Ivoire, AS Roma).

Others are Islam Slimani (Algeria, Sporting Lisbon); Kwadwo Asamoah (Ghana, Juventus); Mehdi Benatia (Morocco, Bayern Munich); Mohamed El Neny (Egypt, Basel);

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (Gabon, Borussia Dortmund); Raïs M’Bolhi         (Algeria, Philadelphia Union); Sadio Mané (Senegal, Southampton); Seydou Kieta     (Mali, As Roma) and Sofiane Feghouli (Algeria, Valencia).

The rest are Stephane Mbia (Cameroon, Sevilla); Thulani Serero (South Africa, Ajax); Vincent Aboubakar (Cameroon, Porto); Vincent Enyeama (Nigeria, Lille); Wilfried Bony (Cote d’Ivoire, Swansea); Yacine Brahimi (Algeria, Porto); Yannick Bolasie (DR Congo, Crystal Palace) and Yaya Toure (Cote d’Ivoire, Man City).

African Player of the Year (Based in Africa)

Amr Gamal (Egypt, Al Ahly); Abdelrahman Fetori (Libya, Ahly Benghazi); Bernard Parker (South Africa, Kaizer Chiefs); Bongani Ndulula (South Africa, Amazulu);

Akram Djahnit (Algeria, ES Setif), Ejike Uzoenyi (Nigeria, Enugu Rangers); El Hedi Belamieri (Algeria, ES Setif) and Fakhereddine Ben Youssef (Tunisia, CS Sfaxien).

Others are Ferdjani Sassi (Tunisia, CS Sfaxien); Firmin Mubel Ndombe (DR Congo, AS Vita); Geoffrey Massa (Uganda, Pretoria University); Jean Kasusula             (DR Congo, TP Mazembe); Kader Bidimbou (Congo, AC Leopards); Lema Mabidi           (DR Congo, As Vita) and Mudathir Al Taieb (Sudan, Al Hilal).

The rest are Roger Assalé (Cote d’Ivoire, Sewe Sport), Senzo Meyiwa (South Africa, Orlando Pirates), Solomon Asante (Ghana, TP Mazembe), Souleymane Moussa (Cameroon, Coton Sport) and Yunus Sentamu (Uganda, AS Vita).

The winners of the two categories will be decided by votes from the Head Coaches/Technical Directors of the National Associations affiliated to CAF. The Awards Gala will take place on Thursday, January 8, 2015 in Lagos, Nigeria.

Ivorian Yaya Toure was crowned African Player of the Year for the past three years while Mohamed Aboutreika of Egypt was named African Player of the Year (Based in Africa) last year.
