Cabbie testifies in Koala robbery case

The taxi driver who saved the staff of Koala Shopping Mall at Cantonment when she was being attacked by armed robbers, yesterday told an Accra Circuit Court that the robbers shot at him twice, but they missed the target.

The witness said, he was driving his taxi towards the American House from the El-Wak Sports Stadium, and on reaching the United States Embassy, he heard gunshots and later realised that two armed robbers, on a motorbike were attacking the Marketing Administrator of the shopping mall.

The driver told the court, presided over by Mr.Aboagye Tandoh, that he chased and knock them down, adding that he saw the motorbike coming towards his direction and sensing danger, he knocked them down.

The driver said after knocking them down, he realised they fell behind his vehicle, and when he wanted to rescue the lady, he saw a pistol pointed at him by one of the armed robbers.

The Witness said the robber fired but missed the target, the robber then dropped the gun and were soon surrounded by a mob.

He said a policeman, who appeared at the scene, called a patrol team, which came and arrested the accused.

The court adjourned the case to April 8.
