Cabbie camps, defiles girl for 5 days

A 38-year-old taxi driver has been sentenced to seven years in hard labour for camping and defiling a 15-year-old house-help.

The Akim Swedru Circuit Court, presided over by Justice Emmanuel Bart Plange Brew, convicted the accused, Isaac Darko, on his own plea.

The prosecutor told the court that at about 3.30 pm on January 3, the victim was sent to deliver money to someone near Akim Oda Morning Star.

He said the victim, on her way back, boarded a taxi driven by the accused.

The prosecutor said Darko convinced the victim to stay in the vehicle for the rest of the day, as he conveyed people around the town, and finally took her to his room and detained her for five days, sexually assaulting her.

On January 8, at about 1:00 p.m., the accused took the victim to Akim Awisa lorry station and asked her to go home.

The girl was taken to the police station and upon interrogation, she narrated her ordeal to police.

She was then issued with a medical form for examination which confirmed that she had been defiled.

The accused admitted the crime upon arrest, and was put before the Akim Swedru Circuit Court.—GNA
