Businessman jailed 24 months for theft

An Accra circuit court yesterday sentenced a businessman to 24 months imprisonment for stealing Pro Laptop, HP Laptop, bunch of keys, pendrive, Ipad phone and GH¢500.00.

Daniel Deku was also sentenced to serve nine months in prison for causing unlawful damage. The sentences are to run concurrently.

The court, presided by Mr. M. E. Essandoh, ordered Deku to compensate Mr. Samuel Ofori Adjei, the complainant, with GH¢13, 000.00.

Prosecuting, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Man-Anit Sampana, said Deku caused damage to the glasses of the door of Adjei’s car, valued at GH¢3,200.00, at Osu in Accra.

Prosecuting, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Man-Anit Sampana, said on July 26, 2017, police received complaint that a group of youngmen were stealing and breaking into cars at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle, and other parts of Accra.

The court heard that when the police arrested Kwadwo Antwi at Kwame Nkrumah Circle, he admitted that he and Deku had engaged in breaking into cars over the years.

DSP Sampana said Antwi led the police to arrest Deku at his residence at Bortianor, Accra,

Prosecution said a search at Deku’s residence revealed different car keys, jewelry, watches,  ladies bags, , phones, pendrives,  medical equipment  and complimentary cards, which were suspected to have been stolen from  victims.
