A businessman has been arrested by the police for allegedly defrauding his girl-friend at Odorkor in Accra of GH¢5,000.
Nana Kwame Boateng, 36, was said to have taken the money from Georgina Ampong, 46, a chop bar operator, to clear his vehicles at the port and absconded.
The Accra Central Crime Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Kwame Owusu Sekyere, told The Ghanaian Times that three years ago, Boateng saw Georgina at Odorkor where she operated her chop bar and proposed to her and she accepted.
DSP Sekyere said while in the relationship, Boateng asked for GH¢5,000 from Georgina with the explanation to clear his vehicles from the port and refund the money after selling them.
He stated that after Georgina gave the money to the suspect, he absconded, and all attempts by her to get in touch with him via phone calls or at his residence at Ashongman, in Accra, proved futile,” he added.
He said Georgina reported the matter to the police and Boateng was arrested at his hideout at Odorkor, on Sunday evening.
He is currently in police custody, assisting in investigations.
