The Bethel Congregation, Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PGC), Bubuashie, has marked its silver jubilee with a call on Christians to avail themselves of the anointing of the Holy Spirit.
Preaching the sermon on the theme: “The Anointing of the Holy Spirit, Celebrating the goodness of the Lord,” the Reverend Dr. Godwin Nii Noi Odonkor, PGC Kaneshie District minister, urged Christians to seek the Holy Spirit by pursuing the word of God rather than putting their trust in ‘anointing oil’.
“No amount of anointing oil poured on a person can make him or her have the Holy Spirit. We should know that the oil is just a symbolic thing we do,” he advised.
Rev. Odonkor asked Christians to pray and fast to enable them seek spiritual empowerment from God and to enable them to save perishing souls.
This, he said, would also enable Christians to know the truth, and move away from false prophets parading themselves as men of God.
Rev. Odonkor said though Christians would face challenges, they should continue to walk in power of the Holy Spirit to be able to overcome their predicaments..
He advised the church not to be complacent, but rather work harder to attain greater heights.
“As you celebrate the silver jubilee, much is expected of you, most importantly to bring more souls into the Lord’s vineyard through evangelism and ardent teaching of the word of God,” Rev. Odonkor said.
The Minister in charge of the Bethel Congregation, Rev. Josephine Ankrah, commended the founders of the church for their dedication towards the growth of the religious organisation, and prayed for God’s blessing for them.
She urged the church to continue to be the tabernacle where God dwells for those who seek Him with pure heart.
