Bronx gym dominates week 9 ‘Fist of Fury’ boxing league

A record crowd for the maiden ‘Bukom Fist of Fury Boxing League’ which entered its ninth week on Friday was recorded at the Abeka Manste Agbonaa where fans were thrilled with exciting bouts.

It Featured 12 competitive amateur bouts mixed with juvenile and female boxers – Sarah Botchway and Osumani Faruza – also engaged in exhibition bouts.

A light heavyweight bout between Samuel Laryea of Bronx gym and Suleimana Mohammed of WM gym set the evening in motion with the former emerging 5-0 winner and his club mate, Felix Nunoo also defeating Alidu Suleimana also of WM gym on the same margin.

Isaac Neequaye continued the good form for Bronx gym with a close 3-2 points win over Prince Arhin of WM in the middleweight division before light flyweight Philip Ajom climaxed the Bronx gym dominance with a 5-0 win over David Tagoe of WM.

A son of Azumah Nelson, Ghana’s boxing professor, Dalvin Nelson, became the toast of fans after he was announced to the crowd, representing the Fit Square gym but lost 2-3 on points to Samuel Takyi of Discipline Boxing gym in the bantamweight division.

Light heavyweight Jonathan Tetteh of Discipline defeated Ahmed Abdullai of Fit Square 3-2, a defeat avenged by Fit Square gym’s Jessie Lartey with a vintage 5-0 win over Henry Malm of Discipline gym.

Heavyweight boxer, Anane Kutsoke maintained the Fit Square gym momentum with a 5-0 points win over Dan Plange of Discipline gym.

Issah Awal of The Gym lost 0-5 to Enoch Tetteh of the Black Panthers gym in a light heavyweight clash while Sampson Segbedzi of The Gym beat Nick Tagoe of Black Panthers 5-0 on points in a welterweight confrontation and flyweight Michael Abban recorded a 3-2 decision victory over Isaac Aryee of The Gym.

In a bantamweight clash, The Gym’s Jerry Robertson beat Godwin Tetteh of Black Panthers Gym 3-2 on points.

Mr. George Lamptey, president of the Ghana Boxing Federation (GBF) expressed satisfaction with the enthusiasm of the crowd and the level of competition displayed by the boxers.

He described the league as an exercise to keep the Black Bombers, the national boxing team, busy as they prepare for upcoming competitions.
