BlueCrest helps train ICT teachers

BlueCrest College, in partnership with the Ghana Education Service and the Ministry of Education, has conducted training workshops on Cloud Computing using GoogleApps for the ICT teachers from various Senior High Schools in the Greater Accra, Ashanti and Northern regions.

It brought together 120 ICT Heads and Teachers of Senior Secondary Schools across the three regions.

The Centre for Career and Professional Development (CCPD) of BlueCrest College which is responsible for conducting hands-on workshops on latest ICT technologies across the country, has so far trained more than 500 people (both students and professionals) in technologies such as Cloud Computing using Google Apps, Ethical Hacking and 3D Gaming.

The Accra leg of the workshop was inaugurated by Mrs. Felicia Boakye-Yiadom, Regional Director, people of Education, who advised the participants to make the best of the workshop to develop the skills which would enhance their productivity.

She advised them to also pass the knowledge acquired to their students and colleagues.

She appreciated BlueCrest College for their initiative towards technology diffusion to teachers and their contribution towards the welfare of ICT Education in Ghana.

Mr. Vivek Verma, Director-of BlueCrest College, stated that the hands-on workshop showed the institution’s commitment to create awareness on the new developments in the field of Information and Communication Technology.

He highlighted the importance of cloud infrastructure for education and how it manages the execution of a variety of scientific workflows.

Participants were trained on how best to use Cloud computing for education. The context included fundamentals of Cloud Computing and how it differs from traditional computing technologies with its architecture.

They also did lots of exercises on Google Office products like Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms and sites. The ICT Teachers were also introduced to Google Apps in education delivery.

Prof. E. Balamurugan conducted the workshop for ICT teachers in Accra and Kumasi. Prof. Balamurugan has more than three years of experience in training students and professionals on Google products, mainly in the field of effective education delivery.

He has spearheaded many projects in his previous university on integration of Google Classroom in academic delivery and assessment.

Prof. Balamurugan holds an M.Phil. and MSc. in Computer Science and is pursuing PhD. in Enhanced Document Classification Technique using Extreme Learning Machine Classifier with Fuzzy Unsharp Marking Scheme.

He has more than 25 publications under his name in various fields of ICT and is associated with BlueCrest College as Associate Dean (Academics).
