PA 25-YEAR-OLD blacksmith in Ho, Douglas Sah, was on Friday sentenced to a seven-year jail term by the Ho Circuit Court for sodomising his nine-year old son.
He pleaded guilty to defilement, saying he did not know what motivated him to carry out the act.
Sergeant Clever Ayayee of the Domestic Violence Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ghana Police Service, told the court, presided by Madam Priscilla Dikro, that the victim, a primary class-two pupil, lived with his grandmother at Ho-RTC.
According to the prosecution, Sah who lived somewhere else in the Ho municipality sneaked into the boy’s room on February 17, this year, at about 1:00 am, while his grandmother was in another room of the house.
The court heard that Sah gagged his son to prevent him from shouting before subjecting him to anal sex in the room.
During the act, however, the boy managed to escape and went and reported the case to his grandmother.
When the grandmother confronted Sah, he initially denied any such offence.
The grandmother organised a team to arrest and escort Sah to the Ho Central Police Station, where a complaint was lodged against him.
The case was later transferred to DOVVSU where Sah, in his caution statement, admitted the offence, the prosecution heard.
Passing sentence, the court said that it took into account the fact that Sah was a first time offender and that he readily pleaded guilty.
Outside the courtroom, Sah caused a funny scene by trying to avoid the lens of the Ghanaian Times, and at one stage, he told this reporter, “I don’t like what you are doing.”
