Black Stars Remain Focused For Final Match – Appiah

Kwasi Appiah and German CoachSweat  merchant’ of the Black Stars, Kwesi Appiah, says his charges remain focused ahead of the team’s final Group G game against Portugal at the Nacional stadium in Brasilia on Thursday.

“Our failure to beat Germany puts us in a much difficult situation, but there’s nothing we can do now than to maintain our focus.

“We should not be thinking about what goes on between Germany and the US, rather we must be concerned about beating Portugal and see what happens,” he said.

The coach told the Times Sports on Sunday in Forteleza that he was proud of his players for putting up a brave performance against Germany, “though we couldn’t win.”

“The German team is a very strong side though we could have beaten them if we had taken our chances,” he lamented.

Appiah called on fans back home to remember the Stars in their prayers, as the Stars dash for the fate-defining tie on Thursday.

Meannwhile, decent number of fans here in Natal have decided to deny themselves food for three days  beginning from today, in a bid to help Ghana qualify for the next round of the ongoing World Cup in Brazil.

The Black Stars ought to beat Portugal in their last Group G game at the Nacional stadium in the capital Brasilia on Thursday and hope Germany also ‘do justice’ to the USA, to offer a chance of qualification.

Both Germany and the United States have four points apiece going into the final group ties. A simple draw will see them through.

However, the fans are believing in a miracle, insisting that “with prayer and fasting, anything is possible.”

“There is nothing impossible before God; that’s why some of us have committed ourselves to this mission of prayer and fasting,” Nana Kwame Boakye told the ‘Times Sports’ yesterday.

He may have spoken the minds of his colleagues numbering about 20, who insist “Ghana will qualify to the next stage.”  From Brazil : john Vigah
