‘Big Boss’ Students On The Rampage

Students of the Bolgatanga Senior High leaving the dormitory.Master Emmanuel Bawa, a Form Three Business student of the Bolgatanga Senior High School (SHS) popularly known as “Big Boss” on Monday met his untimely death, when he tripped the stairs of his dormitory and fell.

Narrating the incident to The Ghanaian Times on Monday, ASP Thomas Yao Agbanyo, the Upper East Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) said the deceased was among a group of students who refused to attend morning assembly on Monday.

According to him, while the students, including Bawa were in the dormitory preparing for the mock examinations they sighted the Senior Housemaster ‘B’ of the school, Thomas Apana, driving towards the dormitory, which prompted them to take to their heels.

In the process, Bawa tripped off the stairs and fell to his death.

He said Mr. Apana rushed to the Assembly Hall to call other members of staff to assist him to revive Bawa.

On their arrival and after attempting to revive Bawa to no avail and upon the orders of Aselibiek Ababa and Stephen Awasinab, the Headmaster and Senior Housemaster ‘A’, Bawa was rushed to the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead, from severe head injuries.

When news of Bawa’s death reached the students they went on the rampage and vandalised Mr. Apana’s car and were about to destroy the wife’s container, but the police arrived and prevented it,

ASP Agbanyo said the students accused Mr. Apana of being responsible for the untimely death of Bawa, hence their decision to vent their spleen on him.

Some of the students also accused Mr Apana of preventing them from helping their colleague, even after the fall.

There was heavy police presence at the school, to foil any untoward behaviour of the students.

As at press time the school authorities were locked in a meeting to consider the temporary the closure of the school.
