Bechem United’s striker Yaw Anorl was on Friday night adjudged the Most Valuable Player of the 2015/2016 MTN FA Cup competition during the 6th edition of the MTN FA Cup Awards Night held at the Banquet Hall, State House.
Anorl beat off competition from Ghana Premier league top scorer Latif Blessing, Okwahu United’s Akoto Danso and Gideon Waja of WAFA to win the prestigious award.
The prolific forward also bagged home the Top Scorer of the competition award as well as Goal of the Competition award, increasing his award tally to three on the night.
His technical head coach Zacharias Manuel and team mate Alfred Nelson swept the Best Coach and Defender of the competition awards respectively to make it a clean sweep for the Bechem lads.
Okwahu United’s duo of Akoto Danso and Abass Mohammed picked up the Most Promising Player and Best Goalkeeper of the competition award.
Tamale based referee Awal Mohammed was adjudged Best Referee of the competition, Eric Owusu Mensah took home the Best Assistant Referee award with Emmanuel Ansah walking away with the Most Promising Referee award while the Best Match Commissioner award went to Albert Commey.
Other awards on the night saw WA Rockets take home the Fair Play award for their constant discipline throughout the competition, while messr Ibrahim Dossey, Robert Duncan, Kweku Abedu Wilson and Nii Kotei Kotey picked special awards for their contribution towards a successful competition.
For winning the 2015/2016 MTN FA Cup, Bechem United received a cheque of GH¢40,000 while second placed team Okwahu United parted with of GH¢15,000 for their sweat.
All awardees on the night received a citation plus an undisclosed amount of cash.
In his address, chairman of the FA Cup committee Mr. Kurt Okraku thanked the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and its allied bodies as well as participating clubs who worked relentlessly to ensure a successful competition.
While commending title sponsor MTN for their immense support over the last six years, Mr. Okraku remind the gathering that the MTN FA Cup since its revival six years ago has not been a mere football game but has also succeeded in completely changing the lives of individuals and families by providing them a perfect platform to launch their careers into stardom.
“The likes of Lawrence Lartey, Moro Ibrahim, Benjamin Tetteh, Joseph Aidoo, Augustine Okrah, Abeiku Ainooson and many others have bettered their careers be it home and abroad with the platform the MTN FA Cup offered them and with some now becoming sole breadwinners for their families”.
Media Manager for MTN Ghana Mr. Franklin Sowah, who represented the MTN Ghana CEO Mr. Ebenezer Twum Asante, noted that the competition would not have been successful without the FA Cup committee, club administrators and the football governing body GFA, and congratulated them for helping ensure a successful event.
