‘Bechem will make Ghana proud at Dallas Cup’

Players and officials of the youth team of Bechem United appear to be on the ‘warpath’ as they pledge to take the world by storm during the forthcoming Dr Pepper Dallas Cup tournament in the USA.

The Bechem side were invited in January for the prestigious tournament – the first Ghanaian outfit to get the opportunity.

“It’s a rare opportunity to be invited for the Dallas Cup and we’re going to make it count,” says Bechem United Chief Executive, Nana Kwesi Darlyn.

According to him, the cadet team has ‘engaged fiercely’ in eight trial games ahead of the two-week tournament which will be held in Dallas, Texas, from April 12-24, 2019.

“Mark it, when my boys step onto the pitch, there wouldn’t be any doubt at all with regard to their level of preparedness for the campaign.”

He stressed that the team has won six games, drawn one and lost one; the only defeat coming at the hands of premiership side Liberty Professionals.

A couple of players who spoke to the Times Sports at the weekend appeared buoyant as they looked forward to the Dallas Cup tournament with consummate keenness.

“We’re not going there to joke at all. We want to be the first Ghanaian side to lift the Cup and that’s the mindset and approach we’re taking into the tournament,” says remorseless striker Hope Avayevu, who has scored three goals so far.

Another top goal-poacher with three goals, Michael Ankomah Bempong, promised to poke in a couple of goals in the tournament, insisting that “we shall make Ghanaians proud, doubtless.”

The Bechem team and officials are being sponsored by Delta Airlines – and steered by Robert Osei Mensah, a USA-based soccer agent and CEO of Ghamerico Management Limited.

Celebrated coach Sellas Tetteh, who led Ghana’s Under-20 team (Black Satellites) to world conquest in 2009, is expected to be in charge of the Bechem side when the tournament takes off.
