Bechem pip Hearts

A 77th minute penalty expertly converted by striker Ahmed Toure handed Bechem United a 1-0 victory over Accra Hearts of Oak yesterday at the Bechem Park.

The cagey encounter was steering to a stalemate until midfielder Malik Akowuah was adjudged to have handled the ball in the penalty area by referee Samuel Borketey Bortey on the 75th minute mark.

Toure sent goalkeeper Ben Mensah the wrong direction and raced to the touchline to celebrate.

Watched by an expectant crowd, both sides played a beautiful game as they searched the leader in the opening exchanges.

It was the home side who were on top and were the first to come close to breaking the deadlock as early as the third minute of the game but defender Vincent Atinga cut out the goal bound drive.

The Phobians had opportunities later in the game but their front duo of Kwame Kizito and Cosmos Duada failed to make it count.

Hearts grew stronger in the latter stages of the match but the homesters proved a mouthful for the visiting team, thwarting every effort until the final whistle went.
