The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) vice presidential nominee, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has clarified the party’s proposed one -million dollar fund for each constituency in the country as part of a poverty alleviation programme.
According to Dr Bawumia, the programme would be segmented into three, namely the Northern Development Authority, Middle Belt Development Authority and the Coastal Development Authority.
These authorities, he said, would be coordinated by the presidency to avoid financial impropriety.
He said only the doubting Thomases would make mockery of the programme which he stressed could be feasible under a competent president such as Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
Dr. Bawumia made the clarification at a rally at Saboba as part of Nana Akufo- Addo’s campaign tour of the Northern Region.
He admonished the electorate to massively vote for the NPP at the December general election to move the nation forward in the right direction.
Dr. Alhaji Bawumia claimed that the President Mahama-led administration has been involved in corruption, economic mismanagement and has collapsed the pro-poor programme introduced by the erstwhile Kufour-led administration.
The Deputy Minority Leader in Parliament, Dominic Nitiwul appealed to the electorate to vote for Nana Akufo-Addo and the Saboba parliamentary candidate, Charles Bintim.
Mr. Nitiwul recalled Mr. Bintim’s appointment as cabinet minister in charge of Local Government and Rural Development during the previous NPP administration.
The NPP Northern Regional Chairman, Daniel Bugri Naabu, cautioned members of the party to guard against voting “skirt and blouse”.
