The maiden Joshua Memorial Baseball Tournament has been held at the Community 7 national baseball and softball field at Tema with Tema Marlins whipping Academy Boys 15 runs 9 to lift the ultimate trophy at stake.
Flying Dragons, Tema Marlins, Academy Boys and Legon Angels were teams that participated in the keenly contested seven hour dehydrating and nerve-wracking event as other teams like Brotherhood, Saint Necals and Anosby Heroes failed to turn up.
The first two fixtures brought Flying Dragons face to face with Tema Marlins; the latter won the day while Legon Angels were defeated by Academy Boys in their encounter.
In the finals, Tema Marlins managed to account for Academy Boys after brilliant displays in striking, batting and running to win the overall trophy at stake.
Mr. Kwame Amponfi (Jnr), Deputy Chief Sports Development Officer of the Greater Accra Region who graced the occasion congratulated the organisers of the event, and the participant for the effort put in.
Mr. Amponfi (Jnr) said the National Sports Authority (NSA) welcomes any initiative that seeks tocreate equal playing field for the youth to explore their hidden talent in any part of the country.
He said the NSA is ready to support in the capacity they can to help all sporting disciplines to realise their potential.
Dr. Bryan Cox, CEO of Spinal Clinic Limited said lesser known sports like baseball needs a great push from both government and individuals to help nurture and harness hidden talents for the nation.
