Two hundred and four break-ins and robbery were recorded between January and June, this year by the Baatsonaa Divisional Police Command.
Twenty-one of the cases have been prosecuted and the offenders serving various prison terms while 68 are under investigation.
The Commander of the newly created Divisional Command, Chief Superintendent Baba Saanid Adamu, who disclosed this to The Ghanaian Times in Accra yesterday said following the high rate of robbery being recorded at Baatsonaa, Spintex Road and its environs, the Police had devised strategies to curb the menace.
Among the strategies, he said, were intensive patrols by the Police, the Special Weapons and Tactical Unit as well as the visibility team.
As a result, he said, only one robbery case was recorded, compared to the past when high rate of such incidents were recorded.
He said, most of the break-ins were recorded on Sundays or working hours when occupants had either gone to church, school or work.
Chief Supt. Adamu said as part of the Police Administration’s quest to bring policing closer to the people due to the growing of residential communities, companies and other institutions, the new division was carved out of the Kpeshie and Sakumono districts to effectively map out strategies to deal with organised crime.
Touching on the division, Chief Supt. Adamu said the division covered Community Eight, Okpoi Gonno, Sakumono and the Baatsonaa districts police stations.
While commending the residents for their commitment at partnering with the police, he appealed to companies and other institutions within the jurisdiction to support the new divisional command in cash and kind to enable it to intensify its operations.
