Ayariga Salutes Rtd, Tullow

Minister of Youth and Sports, Mahama Ayariga said the growth and development of sports in the country would depend on the existence of academies and private and corporate partnership.

He was speaking at the trophy presentation ceremony by the U-17 squad of RtD, to the MoYS and sponsors, Tullow Ghana Limited.

The RtD team won this year’s Gothia Cup held in Gottenburg, Sweden in July after beating Swedish side Mjallby AIF in the finals.

The sector minister said talents abound in the country, hence the need for infrastructure to be developed to tap and developed to become world class stars.

He added that, “in our bid to develop football in the country, there is the need to create academies like RtD and support them to grow.”

He praised Tullow for their sponsorship of RtD, stating that, “it is an excellent example of private sector involvement and investment in sports”.

He urged Tullow to continue the good work by expanding the opportunity to the rest of the country to ensure that everyone is captured in the campaign to develop football.

Mr. Ayariga commended the players for their exploits and tasked officials of RtD to ensure more trophies are won for the country.

He also pledged government’s continuous support to the development of sports in the country as initiatives have been set aside for the purpose.

General Manager of Tullow, Charles Darko stated that, “the victory by RtD reinforces our belief in the vision of the academy.”
