Atuabo Gas plant performing well

Dr.Kwesi BotchweyThe Atuabo Gas Processing Plant (GPP) is working satisfactorily in the supply of lean gas for power generation, Dr. Kwesi Botchwey, Board Chairman, Ghana Gas, has said.

Dr. Botchwey, in a statement, said Aboadze was also relying solely on gas from Atuabo to power the various plants in its enclave.

“We are pleased to confirm that commissioning activities have progressed satisfactorily at the Atuabo GPP. Since raw gas was introduced into the GPP, operational activities on the offshore pipeline component, the onshore pipeline component including the regulating and metering stations at Esiama and Aboadze have been smooth,” the statement said.

The statement said Ghana Gas was currently awaiting the Volta River Authority to complete the requisite works at the Aboadze Thermal Plant Complex to enable it increase its available generation capacity.

“Once ready, it will be possible for us to increase our off take of raw gas from the Jubilee Field’s FPSO Kwame Nkrumah to supply VRA lean gas at the optimal 120 million standard cubic feet per day,” it said.

The statement said at the Atuabo GPP, Ghana Gas experienced few challenges with some minor pieces of equipment but had worked around the clock to resolve those challenges.

It said the commissioning process would be concluded by the end of the month, all things being equal

“We look forward to the commencement of full and normal operations which will pave the way for the commencement of phase two of the project including additional equipment to increase by product production, the Natural Gas Liquids export infrastructure as well as the onshore pipeline extension from Esiama to the Prestea-Tarkwa mining enclave,” it said.
