The 2015 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) best player Christian Atsu Twasam has been ruled out of the Ghana Black Stars’ friendly game against Canada in Washington DC.
The Ghanaian influential winger is yet to play a premiership game for his club AFC Bournemouth, after battling with injuries since he joined them on loan from Chelsea this summer.
Atsu picked up an injury during a training session with the newly-promoted side this week and will undergo treatment and therefore would not be available for the friendly game in Washington.
The 23-year-old was set to be named in Coach Avram Grant’s squad but the injury has effectively ruled him out of the Stars’ game.
In a related development, workaholic Ghana midfielder Rabiu Mohammed is also expected to miss out on the friendly, after sustaining an injury.
The 25-year-old picked up the injury over the weekend while playing for his club Kuban Krasnador in the Russian league against Anzhi where they drew 1-1 and is expected to undergo treatment this week which automatically ‘bowled’ him out of the October 13 friendly game against Canada in Washington.
This has made it difficult for Black Stars’ head coach Avram Grant to name his team early enough for the test game which takes place at the RFK Stadium, home of MLS side DC United.
As of press time, it was also being reported in the media that stand-in captain Andre Ayew, may also miss out in the friendly as a result of an injury he sustained in the Swansea-Tottenham premier league game on Sunday.
Next week’s friendly is to serve as a good warm-up for the Stars ahead of their Africa and World Cup qualifiers in November.
