Atik dares PNC leadership to remove him from offic …But party appoints Acting Gen. Sec.

DARES- Mr MohammedBeleaguered General Secretary of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Atik Mohammed has challenged the leadership of the party to physically get him out of his office if there are justifications for his purported suspension.

According to him, more than 48 hours after the party announced his suspension, he’s yet to receive an official communication to that effect.

A seven-hour-long extraordinary National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held on Saturday, chaired by party National Chairman, Bernard Mornah and attended by all the party’s national executives and regional representatives as well as the party’s 2016 Flagbearer, Dr Edward Mahama took the decision to suspend Mr Mohammed for bringing the image of the party into disrepute.

NEC cited his repeated invectives on Dr Mahama at meetings and he’s further accused of discrediting Dr Mahama in public after the latter was appointed Ambassador-at-Large by President Nana Akufo-Addo recently.

However, Mr Atik Mohammed has snubbed the NEC’s decision describing it as unconstitutional, insisting that he’s still at post and working effectively as the general secretary of the party.

“I find all of these curious, you’re suspended as a national officer, a senior officer for that matter and your National Chairman has not written to you, your leader has also not written to you and all you hear is somebody claiming to be Director of Communication.

“It is strange in the scheme of the PNC that NEC met and decided on your fate without writing to you personally. I’m waiting to see who would come and say NEC has suspended you and so you should stop working.”

In a related development, the NEC has appointed Jacob Amoako as acting General Secretary to replace suspended General Secretary Mr Mohammed.

He was suspended indefinitely by the second highest decision making body of the party after its meeting held on Saturday, July 22, 2017 for criticising the party’s national leader and 2016 Presidential Candidate Dr Mahama for accepting an ambassadorial appointment from President Nana Akufo-Addo.

The party in a statement said Mr Mohammed does not have the mandate to henceforth represent the party in any capacity.

Meanwhile, the National Chairman of the party, Bernard Mornah, has described as unlawful the decision to suspend Mr Mohammed. –
