The Accra Metropolitan Chief Executive, Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije, has urged the assembly and Unit Committee members of the various electoral areas of the assembly to collaborated toward development.

He said stressed that the development plans of the assembly would be achieved when the assembly and Unit Committee members work together in harmony.

Mr. Vanderpuije said these at the inauguration of 380 Unit Committee members of the 76 electoral areas of the assembly in Accra yesterday.

He urged them to work hard to give meaning to decentralization and to allow the laid down structures of the assembly to work.

Mr. Vanderpuije urged the assembly and unit committee members to ensure that cows and vehicles did not compete the roads; houses without toilets have toilets, choked gutters were cleared and collected while correcting the wrongs in the community.

He said the inauguration signifies that the assembly was looking forward to a new and better Accra under their tenure  where their success  would not be judged by the building of millennium schools,  construction of roads, the rolling out 13 new market projects but rather how well they have worked to improve their communities.

He said  of Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) depended on the unit committee members for the success of all developmental projects in their areas.

The Presiding Member (PM) of the assembly, Mr.  Thomas Mustapha Ashong, advised them to live exemplary lives as they have now become opinion leaders in their communities.

He asked them not to carry out any agenda on their own reminding them that they were the supporting arm of their assembly members.

Mr. Ashong urged them to rather carry out their plans in consultation with their assembly members and the sub-metropolitan assembly.

He pledged to ensure that the work of the unit committee members was well done in the various electoral areas.

A judge, Efua  Gyetowah Sackey, of the Accra Magistrate Court, led the unit committee members  to take  the Oaths of Office  and Secrecy.
