The New Ashongman Association and Discipline Youth Club at Ashongman Estate in Accra, at the weekend embarked on a cleanup exercise, to foster unity among the youth of the area.
As early as 5:30am, members of the two associations holding brooms, rakes and shovels cleared the streets and disilted choked gutters in the estate.
The Chairman of the Discipline Youth Club, Mr. Maxwell Nyarko, lauded the youth for turning up in their numbers to participate in the exercise.
He urged the President-elect, Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo, and his administration to act upon their promises, and asked them to restrain their followers from unnecessary arguments that had the tendency of sparking violence.
“We have been promised by successive governments, after tenure of former President Jerry John Rawlings, but none have acted upon their words”, Mr Nyako said.
He said Ashongman lacked markets, public toilets, and good roads among others,
and lamented that commuters were often knocked down by vehicles because there were not speed ramps in the area.
