ASHGOLD’s opponent for Sunday’s CAF Champions League competition, Mouloudia Olympique de Bejaia of Algeria arrived in the country today ahead of their clash in Obuasi on Sunday at the Len Clay Stadium.
Currently lying third on the Algerian league log behind USM Alger and CR Belouizdad, MO Bejaia, attained its highest honours since it formation in 1954, when they won the Algerian Cup last year and also placed second in the league last season to earn them a place in this year’s CAF Champions League.
Nicknamed ‘The Crab,’ M.O Bejai will be making their debut African Inter Clubs campaign against the 1997 CAF Champions League, losing finalist with the hopes of maintaining Algeria’s nearly unblemished club successes over Ghanaian opponents in the last two decade.
Chief Executive Officer of AshGold, Mr. Kudjo Fianoo, revealed that his outfit would foot the bills of the visitors while in the country while the Algerians do same for the return leg in a fortnight’s time.
“They brought this proposal forward and we took a look at it and accepted it.”
Throwing light on their itinerary, Mr. Fianoo said upon arrival, they would be flown to Kumasi to lodge at the Golden Tulip Hotel and then move to the Len Clay Stadium tomorrow afternoon to hold the mandatory training ahead of the game on Sunday.
On preparation to face the visitors, he noted that his side was well prepared for the game, adding that they were sure to send them back to Algeria with a resounding defeat, come Sunday.
