AshGold eye Champions League ‘money zone’

The Chief Executive Officer of AshGold, Cudjoe Fianoo, says the club have set a group stage target for coach Bashir Hayford ahead of the 2016 CAF Champions League.

The Obuasi-based side are Ghana’s sole representatives for the competition, having lifted the 2014-15 premier league title in September.

Poor performances of Ghanaian clubs in recent times have seen the nation lose one each of its two CAF Champions League and Confederations Cup slots.

“We’re going to Africa and our target for Hayford is to take us to the ‘money zone’ [group stage],” Fianoo told Nhyira FM.

“It has been a long time since we played in Africa and we want him to mastermind a brilliant performance by leading us to the group stages.

“With this, I’m sure we shall reclaim Ghana’s slots back. This is our target for him.”

Having led Ashgold to league success – the club’s first in 19 years – Hayford was adjudged Coach of the Year at the end-of-season Ghana Premier League awards.

“We’re going to play Oliver Twist and ask for more,” Fianoo added.
