Ashantigold thrashes Oly

Dethroned Ghana Premier League (GPL) champions, AshantiGold recorded their first victory of the season, courtesy a 3-1 win over Accra Great Olympics with attacker Hans Kwoffie bagging a hat-trick at the Len Clay Stadium in Obuasi.

Both teams struck the woodwork in the early exchanges of the first half where the visitors saw more of the ball.

Guided by Godwin Attram from the technical bench, the ‘AGOSU’ lads dictated the pace of the game but constantly failed to break the Ashantigold defense.

But when the homesters found their rhythm, they were a delight to watch and within a period of three minutes, they were up by two goals.

Kwoffie slotted in an Amos Addai cross from the right to put AshantiGold SC ahead in the 38th minute after an Olympics defender had failed to stop a cross.

In the 42nd minute, Hans Kwoffie got a second for himself and the club with a sublime finish. Amos Addai assisted the goal again.

Just a minute into the second half, Hans Kwoffie completed his hat trick after Great Olympics defenders were caught ball watching.

Great Olympics came back into the game with a consolation in the 65th minute.

Abel Manomey, who joined the Wonder Club from second-tier side Kotoku Royals, scored on his debut.

AshantiGold SC will be travelling to Tema to face Tema Youth FC on Wednesday while Great Olympics hosts newbie’s Elmina Sharks in Accra.
