Asantehene Has Not Dissolved Kotoko Board

OtumfoAsantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has never to dissolved the Board of Directors of the Porcupine Warriors,
Kumasi Asante Kotoko, and has not made any new appointment of a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the club.

There has been several media reports of the Asantehene dissolving the board and appointing Mr. Opoku Nti, a formerplayer of the club, as the new CEO,coming after the Dr. Kofi Kodua  Sarpong led management officially presented the 2012/2013 Glo premiership trophy they won to him.

The reports, which linked the source to the Manhyia Palace, had created some confusion among the members of the board as there was no mention of such dissolution at their last meeting with the Asantehene, on Tuesday.

According to a board member,Mr. Jerry Asare, the Asantehene, after meeting with them, asked them to continue with their work. He was speaking on Metro FM, a local radio station here, yesterday.

He cautioned the media to be very circumspect with their reportage and not to trivialize
comments from the Asantehene to say things he had not said, stressing that the Asantehene never dissolved the board’’.

At the meeting to present the trophy, Otumfuo Osei Tutu was said to have re-echoed the allegations already made by some media outlets (radio stations) of player sale minus accountability, and directed the management to hold a congress to render accounts
and to chart the club’s future. But, that did not go down well with Dr. Sarpong, who decided to resign, and since then, there had been several media reports allegedly from the Manhyia Palace of the dissolution of the board and new appointments.

Dr. Sarpong’s management succeeded in raising a lot of sponsorship packages as well as lifting the league trophy back-to back, but his administration had been criticized too much of selling players and not accounting for them. Similarly, head coach Didi Dramani, is also still at post after meeting with the Asantehene.

But, what had sparked more uneasiness is the report that the Head of Marketing of the club, Listowell Yesu Bukarson, had tendered in his resignation letter, but according to Mr. Jerry Asare they were yet to receive such.
