Asantehene Back Home

asanteheneOtumfuo Osei Tutu, II, the Asantehene, arrived in Kumasi yesterday to a tumultuous welcome from South Africa.

The rousing welcome was occasioned by the rumours that the Otumfuo had passed away when in South Africa, on a private visit and to conduct business on behalf of the Asante Kingdom.

In fact, rumours about his death was posted on social media platforms among Ghanaians, both home and abroad, two weeks ago.

To diffuse the minds of the public that the rumours were unfounded, the Asantehene was at the stands to watch the local block star the finals of CHAN tournament last Saturday.

The Kumasi airport was quite a scene as thousands of people thronged there to catch a glimpse of the Otumfuo.

When the Presidential jet touched down at exactly 3:29pm, the atmosphere was charged with drumming and dancing by the people.

A heavy convoy followed the Asantehene from the airport to Pampaso through some principal streets of Adum, the business hub in the Kumasi metropolis.

It was all joy for the entire Asanteman that the Asantehene is alive.

It is recalled that in 2007, there was a similar rumour about the demise of the Asantehene and he had to tour projects under construction in the metropolis to subdue that rumor. From Kingsley E. Hope, Kumasi .
