Asantehene Accepts Invitation For GJA Awards

ASANTEHENE (7)The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, will be a guest speaker at the 19th Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) awards ceremony, scheduled to take place at the Banquet Hall, in Accra.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu accepted the offer when a joint Ashanti Regional and National Executives of GJA, led by the president, Mr. Affail Monney,  called on him at the Manhyia Palace, in Kumasi, recently.

The visit, the first in the annals of GJA, was to congratulate the Asantehene on his 15th anniversary of his enstoolment as the 16th occupant of the golden stool, and to extend the invitation.

Mr.  Monney commended Otumfuo on his success story, which had reflected in his ability to blend traditional and modernism without defeating the spirit of the rich Asante culture, as well as his unique leadership style that has won him great admiration locally and internationally.

The GJA president noted that in pursuit of good governance, peace and stability in the chieftaincy institution, the Asantehene sought the path of arbitration instead of litigation in numerous cases that won him the title ‘’King Solomon’’.

Mr. Monney noted that the Asantehene was a leader with the vision to promote education, health and economic development, and said said ‘’journalists are yearning to drink from the fountain of your wisdom during the awards ceremony’’.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu, accepted the invitation to attend the ceremony, and said the media was important in national development.

He noted but for journalists wrong doings in the society would not have been  exposed, but urged media practitioners to be more ethical in their work.
