Armed robbers kill lotto agent

Russia, a suburb of Dansoman in Accra, was thrown into a state of mourning, when a Banker-to-Banker lotto coupon supplier was shot and killed by unidentified gunmen, last Saturday.

The deceased, Wisdom Adornu, 54, and other lotto operators were attacked when they had assembled at a kiosk to render accounts to the owner of Banker-to-Banker lotto.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Effia Tenge, Accra Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), who confirmed the tragedy to the Ghanaian Times in Accra yesterday, said the body of the deceased had since been deposited at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital awaiting autopsy.

She said the Dansoman Police dispatched personnel to Russia at about 8:30pm on October 7, 2017, after receiving information that there was a shooting incident at the place.

ASP Tenge said investigations indicated that on that fateful day, two unidentified men on unregistered motorcycle attacked Adornu and other lotto agents, who were at a kiosk to render daily accounts to the owner of  Banker-to-Banker.

She said the armed robbers shot Adornu, when he refused to hand over a bag containing lotto coupons, adding that “the robbers thought the deceased refused to surrender the bag because it contained money”.

ASP Tenge said Adornu, who sustained gunshot wounds in the abdomen was rushed to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, but died on arrival.

She said one ammunition was found at the scene, adding that the police had impounded 17 unregistered motorcycles at Dansoman yesterday for screening.
