The residence of a journalist with Oman FM, Michael Creg Afful was on Friday attacked by suspected armed robbers who shot him in the thigh and physically assaulted him leading to the loss of two of his teeth at Ashaiman Official Town.
Michael Creg Afful in an interview with The Ghanaian Times, said at about 2am on Friday, he heard noise in the hall of his apartment which he shares with his wife and children and other relations.
He said when he came out to check what was happening he was pushed to the the floor by a man in a mask, “that is where I realised robbers had broken into my apartment”.
Mr. Afful said he was ordered not to get up, but lie down which he did after which the robber demanded for his wedding ring and cash.
The Oman Fm reporter said he complied by giving them Gh¢1,300 and CFA 3,000 but refused to give out the wedding ring.
Mr. Afful said, they took four mobile phones and a LED television sets belonging to him and other occupants of the house.
He said he was shot in the thigh in his attempt to raise an alarm and severely beaten.
Mr Afful said, for fear of being killed, he took advantage of a little opportunity and escaped to a colleague’s house who rushed him to the Tema General Hospital, where he was treated and subsequently discharged.
Meanwhile, he said the Ashaiman District Police Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police Seth Tay visited his house and hospital where he pointed out some security lapses that should be corrected immediately to ensure safety in the house.
