Armed robber killed, others wounded in gun battle at Bilando

One suspected armed robber was killed while two others sustained gunshot wounds in a gun battle between four alleged armed robbers and residents of Bilando community in the Tatale/Sanguli district of the Northern Region.

The suspected robbers were said to have mounted a road block in the area to rob commuters Tuesday night when the community members attacked them.

The Northern Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mohammed Yussif Taako confirmed the incident to the Ghanaian Times in an interview yesterday.

He said the incident occurred between the hours of 9pm and 10pm on Tuesday on the Bilando-Sanguli road.

ASP Taako said two of the residents were on the way home on a motorbike when the armed robbers attacked them.

He said they managed to escape and reported it to the residents who mobilised and launched the attack on them.

ASP Taako stated that police had a distress call that armed robbers were attacking some traders on the road, following which the police rushed to the area.

He said the suspected robbers fled before police arrived, adding that the police team found empty cartridges and blood at the scene.

ASP Taako stated that police later had information that one body believed to be one of the robbers were found in the bush by the community members.

He indicated that two others were found at the Tatale Clinic with injuries, adding that the police were investigating the incident.
