Apple Intensifies Effort To Increase Resellers

iPad PixThe world’s most valuable company, Apple, says it is intensifying its efforts at selling apple products especially the ipad through official channels by increasing the number of its resellers in the country.

The move by the company is to make its products available in the Ghanaian market and also prevent consumers from buying from the gray market.

Speaking in an interview with Times Business, Rutger-Jan van Spaandonk, Director of Core Group Africa said: “Core Group Ghana is actively looking to sign up additional resellers in Ghana, as well as to open an iStore in Accra.

Core Group Africa, a subsidiary of Core Group of South Africa, is the sole distributors of Apple products and is responsible for the Nigerian, Ghanaian and Angolan markets.

Mr. Spaandonk said: “We are equally working in a monthly installment plan for iPads with a Ghanaian bank.”
Buying from approved resellers will enable consumers get a two-year warranty on ipads purchased.

The company, which specialises in premier professional and consumer technology brands in Sub-Saharan Africa, will also fix or replace products in line with its policy, once the product was bought from an authorised distributor.

He said increasing the number of resellers would enable Ghanaians to buy genuine ipads from approved outlets in the country.

Mrs Taryn Hyam, Communication Manager of Core Group Africa, said Apple entry into the Ghanaian market was not for it to compete with other products but rather to ensure that more Ghanaians enjoy the full range of applications and opportunities that the use of ipads provided.

She said Apple was committed to its warranty offer to customers and would not go back on its word to fix or replace products in line with its policy once the product was bought from authorised distributor.

To ensure that only genuine ipads benefit from the warranty, Mrs Hyam said buyers of the product would be encouraged to register them at and on registration receive a message to show whether the product purchased is genuine or not.

Apple has developed a number of apps including a word processor app developed to help consumers create, edit, format and view documents wherever they are.

Also developed is iCloud integration which keeps one’s documents up to date across all devices and saves documents automatically.

“An office app that tracks changes, comments for documents and is compatible with MS Office. You can create and edit documents, spreadsheets, presentation formats and view PDF files on-the-go at your convenience. Advanced file manager lets you manage local files and works with your iPad Email attachments,” she said. - David Adadevoh
