PROPERTY worth millions of Ghana cedis were destroyed after fire razed down a one-storey wooden structure at the Tip Toe lane at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra.
The structure which serves as a store for more than 500 head porters and hawkers around the Kwame Nkrumah Circle, was said to have caught fire after power was restored to the area around 9am.
A victim of the fire, Alima Osumanu, told The Ghanaian Times that they had returned to their place of abode in the evening when shouts of “fire” was heard within the area.
She said they had barely descended the stairs when they saw fire on the top floor of the structure.
Ms Osman said other occupants of the structure tried but could not put out the fire, even after the intervention of the Ghana National Fire Service.
As at 1pm when the Ghanaian Times, visited the area, a police armoured car was care at the entrance to the building, with the victims sitting outside awaiting orders of officials of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) to gain access to their destroyed properties.
