The Anfoega Catholic Hospital, which serves the whole of the North Dayi District, has neither a blood bank nor a blood screening machine.
So when 36 people took part in a blood donation exercise here a fortnight ago, the blood was sent to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra for screening and storage.
The exercise was led by the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) parliamentary aspirant for the area, Miss Joycelyn Tetteh, who also donated blood.
Miss Tetteh, however, gave the assurance that she was collaborating with an NGO to provide those facilities to the hospital before the end of this month.
She said the lack of a blood refrigerator and a blood screening machine had over the years caused untold agony to people in the district.
Ms. Tetteh said there was an instance where a patient in need of blood was administered blood of the wrong group, leading to other health complications.
“Once we have the facilities here to preserve and screen blood we will have a huge relief,” she added.
