Andre Ayew Silences Critics

Andre Ayew is already in the hunt for the best goal of the season in France after his outstandingly classic rabona goal for Marseille in their top-flight match against Reims last Tueday night.

French newspapers yesterday are already tipping the Ghana star’s goal for the best goal of the season award in France which has enjoyed several replays with just seven matches played in the season.

Despite being closed in by defenders, Dede twisted his body with his unusual right foot to nutmeg the goalkeeper before the ball hit the net.

Ayew’s delicious rabona goal has attracted massive commentary in the French newspapers on Wednesday who have already concluded that he is in the hunt for the top award.

Ayew also silenced his critics by grabbing a brace for Olympique Marseille in that match.

The winger’s pair of goals was scored in seven minutes to give Les Phoceens a 4-0 lead.

Ayew as been slated by the French media for putting up slack performances in protest of his failed move during the summer transfer window.

But the Ghana international allowed his displays at the Stade Auguste-Delaune II do the talking.

The 24-year-old’s first was recorded in the 52nd minute Togolese goalkeeper Kossi Agassa smothered a Thauvin effort but the ball broke to Dja Djedjé who stood up a cross for Ayew to head home.

Just before the hour Ayew scored his second of the game – and the season – as he supplied an outrageous finish, wrapping his left foot round the back of his right, to turn the ball in after Agassa had saved a Thauvin cross-shot.

Before that André-Pierre Gignac had scored two goals and Giannelli Imbula Wanga added the fifth.

The result meant Marseille stayed on top of the table.
