Amponsah Dares Banku

bukom-bankuEven before Braimah Kamoko enters the ring to fight John Napari on October 3, another challenge has been thrown at him, this time by cruiserweight campaigner, Maxwell Amponsah.

The former Black Bomber who turned professional last year, has called the bluff of the unbeaten Braimah Kamoko, known in boxing circles as Bukom Banku saying he has been pursuing him for a long time, and dared him to accept a match with him, to settle the scores as to who is the best cruiserweight in the country.

During his two-year campaign in the professional ranks, Amponsah, often referred to as the Black Wolf and Ghana’s flag bearer at the 2012 London Olympic Games, has already disposed of seven victims on points.

As a younger, athletic boxer, he has been tagged as the future king at the weight in which pells and as far as Amponsah is concerned, the reign of Banku is in sight.

According to him, the main reason why Banku looks good in the eyes of Ghanaian boxing fans is that he fights weak boxers and that is what has deceived him to believe he (Banku) is the best.

“If he wants to test himself against the best, there are so many here in Ghana and I am one of them. He should mount the ring to fight me.” he dared him.

But what is supposed to be a normal challenge seems to have attracted Banku’s rage and he has vowed to deal with Amponsah, in whatever manner or form.

Banku, now 27-0-0 with 20 by knockouts said Amponsah is yet to develop as a boxer and wonders why he wants to destroy his fledging boxing career this early, by trying to fight him.

“Amponsah just want to be popular that’s why he is calling for a big fight with me. Signing to fight me in the ring is like getting your death warrant.

They don’t call me the African Mayweather for nothing. The so- called bigger threats could not stand me, how much more an empty milk tin like Amponsah, he quried.”

According to Banku, Amponsah is influenced by the huge purse of his fight against Ayittey Powers but does not really have what it takes to stand toe-to-toe with him.

He assure he would gladly grant Amponsah his wish, just to silence him one’s and for all, “I have a fight in Russia after Napari fight October , but because of Amponsah I would plead with the promoters to suspend it to enable teach this boy some boxing lessons,” he disclosed in a chat with the Times Sports.
