Akyem Swedru court adjourns cocoa theft case.

The Akyem Swedru Circuit Court has adjourned the case in which Abena Ohenewa, a Purchasing of Clerk of Nyonkopa Buying Limited, is accused of stealing nine cocoa bags, to August 17, this year.

The court presided by Mr Alexander Oworea on January 20, this year, ordered the witness, Mr Emmanuel Gyasi, the Oda District Manager of Nyonkopa Buying Limited, to produce exhibits of nine bags of cocoa beans, suspected to have been stolen by Ohenewa on the next adjourned date on July 23, but he failed to appear together with the items on Thursday.

Chief Inspector Sallas Fabian, prosecuting, said the complainant Mr.Kwabena Oppong, a Purchasing Clerk of Adwumapa Buying Company at Akyem Batabi on November 11, 2016, reported to the Oda Police that nine bags of cocoa beans had been stolen from a shed at Akyem Batabi, in the Eastern Region.

The court heard that the complainant indicated that he suspected some young men had stolen the bags of the cocoa beans, and them to Ohenewa.

Chief Insp Fabian said during police investigation 25 bags of cocoa were found in the shed of Ohenewa, and the complainant identified nine bags of cocoa as his, and when the suspect was questioned about the source of the cocoa, she could not give any convincing answer.

Prosecution said accused was arrested because records book showed that between November 4, and 6, 2016, she purchased six bags of cocoa beans and not 19 bags.- GNA
