Akonnor delighted with Yacouba return

Charles K. Akonnor, the head coach of Asante Kotoko has expressed delight over the return of his top marksman, Sogne Yacouba, after a long injury spell that kept him sidelined.

Yacouba, on Sunday made a second half appearance in their game against the Black Meteors, where they emerged 3-0 winners at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The Kotoko gaffer was delighted with the recovery of the striker especially ahead of their Confederations Cup clash against the Kariobangi Sharks of Kenya.

“He was sick but gradually coming back and I am hopeful that in two weeks time he would be fully fit for the return leg encounter,” Akonnor said in an interview with the GNA Sports.

Akonnor revealed that, the Sharks are a very good side especially in their attacking prowess but were targeting a positive result in Kenya.

“Our opponents are good and they have a good forward line, having scored at least a goal in match and we have to stop that and look at ways we can frustrate them and have strategies very well and hopefully we can get a positive result,” Akonnor indicated.

Kotoko would depart to Kenya on Wednesday ahead of the clash slated for the Kenyatta Stadium on Saturday, November 15, 2018.

Meanwhile, Jordan Opoku, veteran midfielder of Kotoko is also targeting a positive result against Kariobangi Sharks in the first leg encounter of the Confederations Cup match.

Opoku, who remains an important player in C.K Akunnor’s setup, is confident about getting the much needed results ahead of the second leg and believes their hard work at training would eventually pay off.

“We are working hard to get things easy and hopefully we can replicate our form against the Sharks of Kenya and I want to assure our fans that we will get a positive result,” he told GNA Sports in an interview.

“We have worked very hard over the past few weeks and it has boosted our confidence and you could see how compact we were in the two friendly matches we played.

Kotoko is expected to leave to Kenya today for the clash on Saturday. –GNA
