Airtel Headlines 82nd Ghana Open Golf Championship

Airtel Ghana has earned the rights as headline sponsors for the 82nd Ghana Open Amateur Golf Championship to be held September 19-21 at the Royal Golf Club, Kumasi.

Head of Corporate Communications, Donald Gwira, said Airtel’s decision to sponsor golf in the country was for strategic reasons.

Interacting with a section of the media over the weekend, Mr. Gwira said Airtel was poised to partner with associations to identify young talents and harness them like it is with the ‘Airtel Rising Stars’ competition.

“By working together with the golfers, we hope to also churn out new talents that would soon take over from the veterans and put Ghana on the biggest platforms golf presents.”

Business-wise, Mr. Gwira said the sponsorship would offer the platform to reach customers in the corporate sector who are direct beneficiaries of the currently running Airtel business and Airtel premium services.

He added that ‘Airtel seeks to delight golfers and create connectivity for businesses to network and also make new deals.’

Mr Gwira said “Airtel has begun a journey with the Ghana Golf Association (GGA) which will be reviewed along the way.’

President of the GGA, Dr Felix K. Frempong, commended the company for coming on board to sponsor the competition.

He said the Ghana Open is an annual event which is organized to coincide with the birth date of Ghana’s former President, Dr Kwame Nkrumah.

The competition is the premier event on the GGA’s calendar and this year’s edition is expected to attract over 100 golfers from almost 18 golf clubs in the country.
