NHIA Association Board Inaugurated

SYLVESTER MENSAHA ten-member executive board of the Nationwide Health Insurance Agent Association was inaugurated in Accra on Friday with Mr Ebenezer Ashie Hobson as chairman, it will among other things ensure effective registering and education of every Ghanaian into the National Health Insurance Scheme and seek the welfare of the members of the association.

Other members are Mr Otchere Mireku, vice- chairman, Alfred Nash Ashong, Secretary; Beatrice Sarbah, assistant secretary; Helen Akakue-treasurer; Richard Addo, financial secretary, Ernest Amoateng, Organiser; Musah Mohammed, assistant organiser; and Faustina Amoh, member.

Mrs. Rose Quaye, Desk Officer for the Informal Economy of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), who inaugurated the board urged members to work hard to promote the growth of the association.

She said records at the Ghana Statistical Service indicated that there were 13 million workforce; with nine million in the informal sector which contribute about 70 per cent of the Gross Domestic Product economy. She therefore called on the members of the association to unite in promoting health delivery in the country.

The Deputy General Secretary of the TUC, Dr Yaw Baah, urged the executives to focus on improving the association.

He commended the association members for supplementing government efforts in promoting health care delivery.
Mr Hobson for his part, said the association since its inception 12 years had 5,000 members nationwide who were on contract with the NHIA assisting to educate clients enrolled on the scheme.

Mr Hobson thanked the members for the trust reposed in them and promised, they would do everything within their means to promote the association’s growth.
