The chiefs and people of Agona Nyarkrom Traditional Area in Agona West Municipality, have appealed to the government to create a third district for them to speed up development in the area.
“Agonaman has three urban councils- Swedru, Nyarkrom and Nsaba Urban Councils- of which Swedru and Nsaba have been elevated to municipal and district status, while that of Nyarkrom is still in the waiting, the paramount chief, Okofo Okatakyi Nyarko Eku X, said in a speech he delivered at a durbar to commemorate their Akwambo festival.
The festival, under the theme: ‘Akwambo Festival-Our Heritage; A vehicle for sustainable peace, unity and development’, commenced with some activities including a clean-up exercise and home-coming by family members.
The Paramount Chief said the traditional council had already set aside a vast land at Nyarkrom for the construction of offices and residential buildings for the establishment of the district assembly to be known as Agona Central, with it capital at Agona Nyarkrom.
Okofo Nyarko Eku, who is also the president of the council, said the construction of a modern community centre, roads, schools and health infrastructure as well as extension of electricity to the rural parts of the district were some of the projects they had benefited under the present government.
