Advisory Committee for ER varsity inaugurated

Members of the Advisory CommitteeA 15 member site advisory committee has been inaugurated to take charge of site works for the construction the University of Environment and Sustainable Development at Somanya and Donkorkrom in the Eastern Region.

The committee, chaired by Mr. Rudolf Sambo, Eastern Regional Coordinating Director is mandated to liaise with all stakeholders towards the effective development of the two sites for the university project.

The committee consists of some representatives of relevant institutions such as the Environmental Protection Agency, Lands Commission, Ghana National Fire Service, the Yilo Krobo Municipal Assembly and traditional council as members.

Mr. Antwi Boasiako-Sekyere, Eastern Regional Minister, inaugurating the committee, tasked the it to provide quality technical advice to the University Project Planning Committee in the selection of site for physical project work and undertake due diligence in all stakeholder matters.

Mr. Boasiako urged the committee to give technical attention directed to the acquisition of land for the campus at Donkorkrom, processes and procedures related to site preparation as well as other business relating to the establishment of the university.

Mr. James Dackson, the Committee’s secretary promised their commitment to ensure that the region’s dream of having a public university materialized.

He said the committee has already begun it work and had completed the physical project work at Somanya where the main campus would be developed.

He commended the land owners for their high level corporation during the physical project work and was hopeful that funds would also be made available to complete the Donkorkrom campus on time.

The University for Sustainable Development earmarked for the Eastern region was a fulfillment of President Mahama’s promise made in 2012 manifesto.
